The Irvine location is NOT kid friendly and the managers are cowards.
Yesterday, I had a cart full of new hockey gear for my wife and an employee approached my wife while I was 2 aisles away with news that the managers weren't happy with my 1 year old crying intermittently.
I overheard and came over asking him to clarify. He said that a manager sent him out to find out what they could do to keep the kid down.
First of all, he’s a baby. Babies make noise. If you don’t want young families shopping at your store, put a sign out front and we will go spend our money elsewhere.
Second, don’t send a foot soldier to air your grievances. It holds no weight and makes you look like… a coward. I guess you’ve never had a kid before… and that’s understandable… Except that your store also sells sporting equipment for small children. Do you not see the irony?
And that was it. So we put our hundreds of dollars worth of new hockey gear for my wife back and drove down the street to their biggest competitor where four different employees not only greeted my child, but also asked his name, how old he was, and also offered him a lollipop.
That’s all it takes. You guys should know better than anybody, sports are built on families. I’m going to buy my son a lot of sporting equipment growing up, But none of it will be here.

My 28 Blade and length doesn't feel that great and I keep going back to what I call "the Gavin stick".
Jake's friendliness and expertise were evident as he guided our son through the fitting process, addressing all our queries and ensuring that our son had everything necessary for a safe and enjoyable experience on the ice. What stood out was the staff's understanding of our newbie status in the hockey world; they never pressured us to purchase unnecessary equipment, which was greatly appreciated.
Since then, I've returned to purchase a pair of skates for myself , and each visit reaffirms our initial positive impression. Thank you to Jake and the entire Monkey Sports Irvine Team for their outstanding service and genuine passion for helping customers like us dive into the world of hockey with confidence.
Walked in saw 3 guys behind cashiers stands all on their phones, not one welcome, how can we help you, nothing. Walked past a second counter in the middle of the store, another 2 guys on their phones as well and again nothing, no welcome not can we help you find something no acknowledgement whatsoever. I had to walk around the entire store looking for rollerblades, after finding them I approached a guy standing there, asked for my size, he came back handed me the box and honestly, I only purchased them because I really wanted my rollerblades that day, but the employees here aren't deserving of business. No level of customer service, not helpful at all. Management needs to be aware of these employees behaviors and lack of care for customers, especially after reading reviews with similar experiences. If you can avoid this store you should. Horrible customer service!!!
I called MonkeySports in Irvine because I saw online they had it in stock, and I spoke to Gavin. I needed something strung in time for my son's birthday a few days later, and after speaking with him on the phone, he not only answered all the questions I had, but gave me some suggestions based on what I told him about my son's style of play. Without being pushy or dismissing the one I thought I wanted, he suggested another head and gave me concrete reasons it might be a better option.It was a genuine suggestion based on his personal experience. I drove up to MonkeySports, massive store with great lacrosse stock, and walked out with a new stick and the most beautiful string job ever!
My son absolutely LOVES it! He's played with it for a month and it's his favorite ever. He said, it's "a beautiful string job, absolutely perfect pocket, shoots amazing, and has just the right amount of hold." Aesthetically, it looks awesome with the Dragonfly he suggested too. We've literally always had to adjust the pocket at other lacrosse stores, but NOT this time (although he would have adjusted it on the spot if we had needed it)!
Gavin is a lacrosse genius. Well worth the trip. Go see him, and your season is definitely going to improve!
5th star removed because the parking lot is very very dark at night. This is a safety issue for pedestrian visibility and crime.
I love going there to shop and check out stuff!! They have a great selections on many gears!
You can get your skates sharpen here too, I heard was $12 or free at your skate purchased there the first time

I had a skate emergency that I needed help with ASAP. Every store that I went to told me that they couldn't help me or that it would take over a week. I came into this store, asked if they could help, and right away employees got to work. They got a job that would take a week everywhere else done in 2 hours.
THIS is customer service. THIS is what running a business the right way looks like. I can not thank you enough and I will be returning in the future!

3D Skate Fitting/3D Foot Scanning
Within all of our MonkeySports locations, we have the latest skate fitting technology from our major brands. 3D skate fitting and foot scanning is valuable to our customers in which they can figure out which stock skate works best for their specific needs and even make recommendations and showcase how skates would fit on the feet if they are smaller or larger. This scanner will pick up every small detail of the foot and the technology of the skate recommender works great! There are different versions that can be done where the customer is either standing or sitting and the scanner is either moved around their feet or captured while standing in the scanner itself. Customers can also get these foot scans done to figure out which custom skate would work best for their individual needs to make sure when they are on the ice, they are skating to their best potential.
Skate Sharpening & Repair
For all hockey players, it is essential to get your blades sharpened and our MonkeySports location can take care of your skates to keep you on the ice. We use the best products available to sharpen, repair, swap holders, replace rivets and provide maintenance needed for our customers. Specifically in Roller Hockey markets, our stores will also handle swapping holders and can convert your ice skates with a chassis to house roller wheels.
On top of this skate service, most locations can provide sewing and maintenance to player gloves, goalie gear, lacrosse heads or baseball gloves. While some services vary by location, it is best to contact your local MonkeySports store to speak with an employee who handles these repairs and schedule it before you arrive.

For baseball and softball players, their glove can be so preferential and beloved that they don’t want to give it up! We understand that love and connection, so we offer full relacing, repair, and restringing to ensure their glove stays broken in but isn’t coming apart! If that beloved glove needs to be replaced and the new glove needs to be broken in, we offer full break-in services in our glove steamers and break-in stations to ensure that the glove has started to break in to the customer’s liking.
